So, Kent State stunk it up against UNLV. I didn't get to see the game, but I kept track through ESPN.com Gamecast. I knew we were in trouble at 9-2, and it didn't get any better. Then, at the half it was 31-10, and the Flashes had tied for the lowest first half output in NCAA tournament history. The final score, 71-58, wasn't so bad. But that first half was TERRIBLE.
But that doesn't mean I am ashamed to be a Golden Flash, or anything. Kent State was by-and-far the best team in the MAC, and I really thought the team had a chance to, at least, get past the first round. The team was led by seniors Mike Scott, who I've watched since his first game, and Haminn Quaintance. It's sad that two solid, if not spectacular, college basketball careers had to end in such a horrendous loss. The score isn't indicative of what this year's team was capable of.
Now, we just have to hope Jim Christian doesn't get wooed away by the big boys — namely Indiana — this year. Yes, a couple important seniors will be gone next year, but Kent State will still have Al Fisher. And, hey! We're Kent State! We'll fight for another 20-win season.
As for the rest of the tournament, my brackets are doing all right. I obviously got the Kent game wrong, but, on the plus side, I got the Kansas State result correct. And my Final Four picks are still alive.
