Talking Wrestling: Fantasy Booking a TNA/WWE Wrestlemania

Wrestlemania weekend is officially under way in Orlando, with a live TNA Impact tonight, a taped show tomorrow, live Ring Of Honor events, and various WWE-related things. Of course, the reason why everyone is in Orlando right now is because of the Super Bowl of wrestling on Sunday. But what if there Wrestlemania was a show every year that saw WWE and TNA wrestlers combine for a super show? Ostensibly, ROH could be involved, too, but since I don't know much about the promotion, I'm going to focus on TNA and WWE.

If Mania was a combined promotion show this year, how would I book the eight matches, based on current feuds? (For the moment, we'll pretend there are no injuries)

Opening bout: Jay Lethal vs. Rey Mysterio
Why? The match would be fast-paced and high flying. A great start to the super show. Rey Rey would go over, as he is more experienced and Jay will be happy just to be there.

Second match: Battle for Women's championship supremacy: Awesome Kong vs. Beth Phoenix
Why? Kong has had some, pardon the pun, AWESOME matches with Gail Kim and ODB. Used properly, Beth Phoenix could certainly hold her own against Kong. This could be one heck of a brawl if they two federations would let them go at it. Kong would go over here because she is straight up dominant.

Third match: Robert Roode and JBL (A new Money, Inc.?) vs. Booker T and Finlay, in a no escape cage match
Why? The Roode/Booker feud has been GOLD so far, with the exception of the booking of their upcoming Lockdown match. Still, the two wrestlers have a major grudge to settle. The Finlay/JBL feud is a bit...worse...But they are going to beat the hell out of each other this Sunday. Throw the four guys in a cage and let them go nuts. The booking could go a couple ways here. It would be great to get Roode a big win, but it's Booker's turn to win, so he would get the pin.

Fourth match: Edge vs. Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship
Why? The match is already set for Mania, and should be great as it is. Also, it is a WWE Pay-per-view, and what would Mania be without a world title match, or without the Undertaker? It's likely that Taker will take the match Sunday, and under my scenario here, I would still give it to him.

Fifth match: Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels
Why? Their match at Wrestlemania 21 is my favorite match. Period. I'd like to give them the chance to do it again. Purely for my pleasure. What? I'm selfish. And, yes, I would have Angle go over here. He's the TNA champion, and he's more focused now than he's been in a while. Oh, and don't worry about Flair: I've got him taken care of.

Sixth match: Money in the Bank: Chris Jericho vs. MVP vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. CM Punk vs. AJ Styles vs. Alex Shelley vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe
Why? MitB is a Mania tradition now. As for the TNA participants? AJ/Christopher Daniels/Samoa Joe have had some GREAT matches between them. Tell me you wouldn't be salivating at this match. Ideally, MVP or CM Punk would get the win.

Seventh match: Batista vs. Tomko
Why? Tomko has been one of the best parts of TNA recently. During his last run in WWE, he wasn't much of a wrestler. Now? I think he could give a rather fun big man match with Batista, who would win.

Eighth match: Randy Orton vs. John Cena for the WWE title
Why? Because John Cena is a lesser evil than Triple H. Maybe the H's gets attacked earlier in the show? Yeah, that's what would happen. Orton/Cena is what should have been the match this year, and, darn it, I'm keeping it that way. Who wins? Well, as Cena prepares for the STFU, HHH would walk to the ring and distract him, setting up Orton for an RKO and a title retention, and a reunion of Evolution. (I kind of stole that idea from Jason Mann during work today...sorry!)

Main Event: Ric Flair vs. Sting in a retirement match for Flair
Why? While not Flair's greatest opponent, Sting is Flair's greatest still-active opponent, and was his adversary on the final episode of Monday Night Nitro. This wouldn't be the longest, best match on the card, but it would easily be the most emotional (as, likely, will Flair vs. Michaels this Sunday). This should close out the show. Flair should win, and take a final bow.

Other people who should maybe find their way on the show: Christian Cage, Umaga, Big Show, Chris Sabin, Gail Kim, ODB, Candice Michelle (sans injury) and Mickie James. I don't know how they would be incorporated, but they should be for a show like this.
